Similar to Ms. Suebee, I am all about using natural oil products for my face and hair.  If you’re looking to switch up your beauty regime, consider trying Desert Essence products.  If I could marry their face wash, I would.  It’s made with apple juice! and a blend of natural oils/extracts of healthy sounding stuff.  Their Jojoba Oil (fun to say, right?) is a miracle worker if you have dry hair.  Only use a wee bit, otherwise you’ll be sporting the Fonz.  You can buy it at Whole Foods or on their website.

Calling all Woody Guthrie fans!  In honor of what would be his 100th birthday, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Jay Farrar of Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo, along with Will Johnson and Anders Parker are releasing a tribute album to Guthrie in late February.  New Multitudes will feature 12 unreleased tracks written by the lyrical genius.  Mermaid Avenue (a Guthrie tribute album performed by Billy Bragg and Wilco) changed my life, so I have high hopes for this album.  Have I built it up too much?  Lucky for us DC’ers, they are playing at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA on March 12th.  There is nothing better than listening to great music in the comfort of a chair with beer and nachos.  Get your tickets!

This Weekend, We…

23 Jan

This weekend my mom was in town for her birthday. We…

Made homemade pizza using my Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day book and my new grocery store find of shredded cheese with a touch of cream cheese — they aren’t lying about the creaminess;

Opened gifts, which include a new shirt for mom and one for me;

Continued on our pizza tour with brunch at one of my favorite restaurants;

Did the “it’s way too cold and gross, let’s drive by the monuments” ;

and had a lovely dinner at Sette with all my DC girls.

We also did a ton of knitting, checked out my favorite local secondhand shop and got pedicures.

How about you? Do anything fun this weekend?

Dude, Let Me Tell You About Meyer’s Counter Top Spray

19 Jan

I can not get enough of Meyer’s Counter Top Spray. I’ve been spraying with glee every since my friend Suzanne introduced it to me. Dude, she can hammer while balancing on a tiny railing AND she has great household products. Love her.

We have these really dark kitchen counter tops and this proclivity to create stinky sponges and this magical spray cures both.  Want to know the best part? When it runs out, you just add 8 tablespoons of the All Purpose Cleaner and fill it up with water and wahlah you are back in business!

I picked mine up at Whole Foods, but they sell it many grocery stores as well as Target. Go get it.

Instagram Love

18 Jan

Do you all Instagram? Lately, I can’t get enough of it. I like to post…

But mostly I like to look — at my favorite bloggers such as here, at my friends and family like my husband and some really talented photographers like here.

If you jump on the bandwagon, follow me at amysuebee and I’ll follow you back!

One of the best concerts I went to last year was Damien Jurado.  While certainly not dance party music (sorry John!), his songs will knock your socks off on a rainy day.  Case in point, the song Ohio, after Ms. Suebee’s home state.  Check out this gem on Live and Breathing, a website featuring live, in-studio (and apparently in shower, waah?) performances with indie musicians.  Damien was recently interviewed on KEXP’s Song of the Day, along with a free MP3 from his soon-to-be released album, Maraqopa.  If you’re lucky, he’ll be visiting your city this spring for the US tour.  Come with me to the DC/Black Cat show.

This Weekend, We…

16 Jan

Gave our house a deep clean, complete with a carpet cleaning rental from Fragers Hardware;

Had a lovely fire and finished Season Two of Damages, our current obsession;

Had our usual Sunday morning coffee;

Joined Costco on a whim and then promptly remembered how it affects my blood pressure; and

Showed my husband that I loved him by taking my vegetarian self to the Pork Barrel BBQ in Del Ray.

Not pictured, beers and apps at Tunnicliffs, a great long run, watching a new to me hair tutorial, yummy brunch at Pound Coffee and the installation of our new sound bar.
